Indigenous Peacekeeping

From the Individual to the Collective

From Information to Knowledge to Wisdom

About Kristine Marie Hill

Member of the Beaver Clan, Tuscarora Nation, Haudenosaunee Confederacy, now living on the Eastern Door of the Confederacy (the Hudson Valley, NY).

Proud mother of four, grandmother, and a queer partner.

Circle keeper, Circle Weaver, and a Story Crafter

Responding to invitations, she is bringing indigenous peacemaking to restorative practices. In the process, she is holding open big space, shaping institutions, and creating the relationships necessary for the emergence of strong alliances between cultures and peoples for social structures that can enable harmonious futures. Alongside colleagues at the Ahimsa Collective and other restorative justice networks, she works to prevent and address harms ocurring within significant institutions of higher education, international spiritual communities, legal networks and other institutions. A dedicated fire-keeper, she is keen on reMembering the plant ceremonies and practices of her people, known as People of the Hemp.

She primarily works with groups, organizations, and networks; she is also available for speaking and select coaching.

Beavers are known for being resourceful, nurturing, and playful, moving easily between water and land.

Areas we grow collective wisdoms

  • Restorative Practices

Most of our institutions derive from the colonial moment; embedded within them are hierarchical structures unhelpful to human beings. Unsurprisingly, harms consistently occur, scattering the collective and individual minds in often painful ways. We build teams and processes to address harm, seeking to influence structural causes as well as support the individuals. We uphold the non-Western traditions beneath contemporary restorative practices.

  • Storytelling, land listening, and animist awakenings

Working with communities to listen to the land, finding different ways to engage with ecosystems and waterways. This includes but is not limited to engaging with retreats, faith communities, and private “properties.” Plant medicine is an important part of our relationship with soil, water, and soul: finding ways to honor our communities’ dis-membered ceremonies and traditions while sharing in collective healing requires collective wisdoms.

  • Indigenous Peacekeeping and Unconventional Strategic Practices

Future institutions will be built out of the indigenous wisdom practices… or they will not survive the challenges before us. We are incubating initiatives, ideas, stories and practices that derive from the older, sustainable ways and listen to the current entrepreneurial and healing current needs of our communities. This often results in unconventional approaches.

What People Are Saying…

"Kristine Hill is an educator who embodies what it means to be curious and attentive as a lifelong practice. In her work with college students from myriad religious, spiritual, and secular backgrounds, she creates and holds a space where students of differing commitments feel they can be open with one another. She somehow manages to keep things light while building a space where people want to take risks, be vulnerable, and grow."

— Rev. Sam Speers, D.Min

Associate Dean, Religious and Spiritual Life and Contemplative Practices, Vassar College, NY

“Carrying on the peacemaking tradition of her ancestors, Kristine Hill is a medicine for our world. I feel a deepened sense of peace simply to know she is amongst us and making our collective life a more safe and sane place. I am further blessed to know her personally, to learn from her directly, and to benefit from her model of power, grace, humility and courage."

— Seth Lennon Weiner

Program Officer, Life Comes From It Foundation

“Kristine Hill’s personal and professional experiences make her an exceptional facilitator and trainer for conflict management. She masterfully connects with and assists Indigenous and extremely harmed individuals and communities. Her deep listening skills give her instant rapport with anyone. Kristine helps people find healthy pathways toward resiliency despite the terrible adversities that many have suffered. Instead of focusing on how hardships have traumatized and weaken individuals and communities, she helps people realize their potential and possibilities. Kristine helps people find ways to reach their preferred futures regardless of the adversities and injustices that they have experienced.”
